Abstract

This study examines teachers’ efforts to foster students’ nationalism at SDN Pagelaran 1 Cianjur through the integration of local cultural values. Nationalism is understood as a sense of love, care, and responsibility toward the nation, which needs to be instilled from an early age, particularly amid the challenges of rapid technological development and ongoing social change that tend to encourage individualistic attitudes and reduce students’ social awareness. In response to these challenges, contextual learning grounded in local culture is considered a relevant approach. The focus of the study lies in the values of someah (friendliness, politeness, respect) and sauyunan (togetherness, mutual cooperation, collaboration) as the foundation for developing students’ nationalist character. The research employs a descriptive qualitative approach using observation, interviews, and documentation techniques, involving teachers, the school principal, and students. Data analysis is conducted through data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing, with triangulation applied to ensure validity. The findings reveal that teachers integrate cultural values into both lesson planning and instructional practices, embed them through collaborative learning activities, and demonstrate them through daily interactions. Reinforcement is also carried out through habituation, cooperation, and constructive feedback. This approach proves effective in shaping students’ friendliness, social awareness, and ability to work collaboratively within the school environment.
